For eight years, the Belgian Police Shepherd, under the guidance of his experienced trainer, was looking for, he was locating, immobilized “bad” and now hangs … the vest of the service. The most famous patrol dog “comes out prematurely in retirement”, but with the training, abilities and commands of Dimitris Kalatha, he has given ELAS. Great successes in the field of search and rescue and has been decisively assisted by police operations, leaving behind a huge stockpile and raising the bar for other dogs in the body.

“It is very great for a closing circle. From morning till night we have been with Oscar all these years in the police. We are a team, but also a family and we have had a very difficult but also very beautiful moments together, so what to do with our cooperation, “Oscar Trainer Dimitris Kalathas told the Athens/ Macedonian News Agency.

He notes that “it is unforgettable to participate in Police Operations in February 2020 in Evros, where we were called upon with many other colleagues from various services to ensure the integrity of the Greek borders. Many hours of work and tiredness, but Oscar never did it back. With a nod, a word was starting to detect. ” Oscar caught the fear and terror of the robbers, dislocated circuits, and in his spare time he did not make a dog and siesta, he participated in educational programs.

As ruthless he was at work with the villains, the more tender he was with the students of Thessaloniki, who visited his attendant – his trainer for the last two years. “We have gone to many schools in Thessaloniki and have taught the children that all the animals and especially the dogs, stray and dominant. How to approach them, how to take care of them, what their obligations are. By showing them how I work with Oscar, I explained to the children that we do not use violence, but on the contrary we reward the desired behaviors of our four -legged friends, ”says Kalathas.

Oscar’s involvement with the Greek Police began in his two years, when he entered the service as a patrol dog as he showed from the beginning that he had this “something” and was verified as his term closes with a lot of success. His “salary” was a rich 1,500 delicacies a month, but also juicy burgers, after difficult night shifts and of course his best, “thumbs up” and hugs, especially by Dimitris Kalatha.

His latest public appearance was at the inauguration of the Thessaloniki Metro, where he was also a first four -legged throughout the route. He controlled, smelled everything and sat proudly in the first place, making the whole route.

Those who know Oscar say that if he spoke, he would certainly say that he is proud and would like to help the police work further. You would add that the job was not easy because it had to become familiar with the space, with a bunch of new scents and sounds. Dogs selected to train for ELAS come mainly from donations from private or accompanying operators. In a few days, Oscar will deliver the vest with the Police logo to a modest ceremony and then move to the house his trainer as he cannot leave each other. Mr Kalathas may be slow to retire, but will take over the “retired” dog, who is already feeling treated by everyone as an equal member of the family.
