A new Student Center, at least 115 students, will be built in Samos for the needs of the University of the Aegean, following a relevant ministerial decision signed by the Minister of Education, Religions and Sports, Sofia Zacharakis.
In particular, according to the Ministry of Education, Approved the purchase of a land For the construction of a student home at the University of the Aegean, at Karlovassi Samos with a total budget of 600,000 euros, after the purchase was approved by the University’s Board of Directors.
The new student home will be able to accommodate at least 115 studentseither in single -room rooms with a bathroom, or in two -room apartments. Two of the single rooms will be suitable for housing disabled students.
According to the ministry, the building complex to be erected is expected to have modern and fully equipped public areas, such as reception, entertainment rooms, kitchen and dining room, as well as laundry areas, warehouses and technical facilities, etc.
It will also be fully accessible to people with disabilities, in accordance with applicable law.
In conjunction with existing student residences, it will cover the housing needs of more than 265 students from the University of the Aegean annually, based in Karlovassi Samos.
“The construction of a student home in Samos is a living example of how we can provide immediate, meaningful solutions to a timeless acute problem: that of student housing,” Ms Zacharakis said, among other things.
The minister added: “We support families who grow their expenses when their children study away from home.
Our plan for the Student Housing is moving on three axes: upgrading of public university infrastructure, support for students and their families, as well as support of the Region. In deeds, not in words. We want our islanders to feel, especially in Samos but also in the northeast Aegean, that our government takes care of everything that supports local communities, responds to their needs and agony. “
The project was included in the “Sectoral Program for Development of the Ministry of Education, Religions and Sports 2021-2025” on the Priority Axis “Development and Modernization of Infrastructure of all levels of education”
