It is gradually abolished traditional blockby which its auditors Thessaloniki Urban Transport Organization imposed for decades fines on passengers who did not ratify or not issued a ticket on the buses.
The block is replaced by “Smart” cell phones with wireless printer and now the fines in Thessaloniki will be recorded digitally and will be done on the spot printing of the receipt to offenders.
These days fare controllers receive in groups the electronic devices and are informed about how to use them.
The digital recording of fines is part of a more comprehensive process of restructuring and modernization of the fare control department.
In the context of this process, OASTH has proceeded
-number reinforcement of auditors,
-the training of auditors on the audit process,
-in the introduction of the measure of “stationary controllers” in terminals, as well as throughout the route of specific bus lines which alternate.
Besides, during this period OASTH installs in the buses special dividers between drivers and passengers, which will lead to the opening and use of the front door. In the future, the goal is for passengers to board the buses exclusively from the front door, so that the driver can check whether a ticket is issued or validated, or whether the passenger has an unlimited travel card.
The exclusive use of the front door, which will initially be piloted, dates to the end of spring and, in any case, depends on the evolution of the pandemic.
It is reminded that in the context of the effort to raise awareness of the passenger public for the proper use of Public Transport and the fight against ticket evasion, OASTH is launching an information campaign.
“The imposition of fines is not an end in itself. We ask the citizens to support the Organization, buying and validating their ticket “, underlines the President and CEO of OASTH, Professor George Skodras.
“Controls work. “In January 2022, compared to January 2021, we had an increase in sales of unlimited travel cards by 130%”, emphasizes the OASTH Revenue Assurance Manager, Christos Chatzigeorgiou.
