Firefighters are continuing to fight in Chios, where the fires that occurred on Sunday afternoon are raging in three places. The first fire started from the area of Kofina, the second from the area of Agia Anna and the third by Agios Makarios Vrontados.

Early Monday morning on 112 sounded again. The message was asked by residents in the areas of Resta and Agia Paraskevi Karyes to evacuate them and head to the city of Chios.

So far 16 settlements have been evacuated on the island.

Sunday night it became known that Three houses were burned in Agios Dimitrios area, About 4 kilometers from the city, without fortunately being victims, however, speaking in the morning on Real Radio, the mayor of the island denied that they were burned only by only some damage.

However, after a night of hell, Monday dawned with restrained optimism for the islandas all fronts of fire exhibit a small image of recession, according to Politischios, although active outbreaks are still being recorded in critical areas. From 05:50 in the morning, the fire helicopters that remained on the island during the night began throwing water again, attempting the most inaccessible and active fronts. Air Force operations are mainly focused on Resta and Agia Paraskevi Karyon, where the fire is still intensified. According to the Fire Brigade the fronts are scattered and burning both forest and agricultural land.

Nightmare

The night of agony lived by the residents of Chios with firefighters and islanders to fight over the flames. However, the strong winds blowing in the area make their work difficult.

The night battle with flames was almost exclusively filed by the ground fire forces, which were constantly reinforced by the arrival of firefighters and vehicles from Athens. Thanks to the constant flow of aid, the operational capability of the Coordinating Center increased significantly, enhancing control and extinguishing efforts.

Chios MP Notis Mitarakis was in the business chamber of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, together with Deputy Minister Evangelos Tournas, coordinating the extinguishing operation. As it was known, 11 helicopters remained in Chios, who are operating again from 06:00 in the morning.

Chios

To extinguish fires They operate 190 firefighters with 38 vehicles.

The Arson Criminal (DEEE) Directorate, ordered by the Chief of the Fire Brigade, Lieutenant General Theodoros Vagia, goes to Chios to investigate, in cooperation with the state security of ELAS, the causes of the fires. In Chios, with forces from Lesvos, there are the North Aegean Regional Fire Department Governor Alexandros Kouvakas and the Regional Governor of the Aegean Costas Moutzouris.

No electricity

At the same time, the whole area of Vrontados continues to remain without electricity for more than 18 hours, from noon on Sunday to this time. The lack of electricity has created serious problems in the daily lives of residents, but also in the pumping and firefighting infrastructure, which are based on electricity.

The restoration of the power supply remains priority for HEDNO, but the rough territory and the continuation of the fire at adjacent points delay full access to the damage points.

Chios is still in a state of increased alarm, with civil protection forces maintaining a high level of readiness until the image on the fronts are fully stabilized.
