Very high risk of fire (Risk Category 4) forecast for today Monday in Attica, Crete, Cyclades, Euboea, Laconia and areas of Northern Aegeanaccording to the Fire Risk Provision Map issued by General Secretariat for Civil Protection of Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr).

Specifically a very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is provided today for the following areas:

– Attica Region (including the island of Kythera)

– Region of Central Greece (Evia IP)

– Peloponnese Region (Laconia IP)

– Northern Aegean Region (PE Chios, PE Samos, PE Ikaria)

– South Aegean Region (Cyclades Regional Units)

– District of Crete

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has informed the relevant state -owned state agencies, as well as the regions and municipalities of the above areas, in order to be on increased civil protection readiness to address any fire incidents immediately.

At the same time, the GAPP recommends that citizens be very careful and to avoid actions in the countryside that can cause fire from negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, using sparks such as drops, use of sparks, rugs, cigarettes, etc. It is also recalled that the burning of the fields are prohibited during the fire period.

In addition, as announced by the Fire Brigade, the 2nd Stage of Operational Readiness of the PA remains in place. And air surveillance patrols will be carried out, as well as patrols by firefighters, police and military forces.

Furthermore, the fire departments of the above areas remain partially alert to tackle the increased service requirements, which may occur due to very high risk of fire (Risk Category 4).

At the same time, for these areas, the Civil Protection Actions Plan to address risks due to forest fires is implemented, according to which, inter alia, the implementation of the preventive prohibition of vehicle traffic and the stay of excursions in national parks, forests.

At the same time the Fire Brigade appeals to citizens:

  • Be particularly careful and avoid actions in the countryside that can cause fire by negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, using sparks such as discs, welding devices, use of outdoor barbecues It is also recalled that during the firefighting period it is prohibited to burn the fields
  • Monitor the information on the prevention of forest fires available on the website and on the official Fire Brigade accounts on Facebook and Twitter
  • In case they perceive fire, they are kindly requested to notify the fire service immediately in the 199 call number 199

Finally, the Fire Brigade calls on all citizens to be very careful and, in the event of a fire, for their own safety, to adhere strictly to the instructions of the competent authorities.
