Controls on gross plots Following complaints of citizens submitted to the relevant platform has begun to conduct the Firefighter. Firefighters go to those points, which have been indicated to check what has been reported.

According to Civil Protection data From June 16, 2025 to July 3, 2025, in 18 days, citizens’ complaints about gross plots amounted to 3,748and of those to check are 3,528. Already, according to Civil Protection data, 164 checks have been carried out following citizens’ complaints and during the audits, 72 cases of non -cleaned land has been identified as well as 9 cases that have not been declared. According to the same figures, 83 owners of landfill,- in the context of the audits, had “complied”, that is, the complaints they had had had no basis, and no false statement was found. At the same time, as reflected in Civil Protection data, the municipalities where gross and non -declared plots have been identified have been informed and have so far imposed a total of 13 fines on 72 cases.

As Civil Protection sources point out, last year’s complaints were 8.106, but the platform for their submission was open until almost the end of the year, ie 29/12/2024.

Fire Department executives by evaluating and controlling complaints that have been submitted to the Digital Citizens’ Complaint Service of the National Register of Preventive Protection measures and depending on the risk of each property proceed to autopsies at the respective points. As has already been announced by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, according to a new JMD published in early June, the Fire Department now has the responsibility for carrying out audits and imposing fines on citizens’ complaints, which have been submitted to the platform and relate to property. At the same time, municipalities are also carried out at least 5% of real estate statements within their administrative limits.

As the sampling controls of the municipalities have been pointed out and the complaints are prioritized according to the risk of each property. Thus, for example, first -door real estate, hospitals, schools, industries, inaccessible points, etc. are first checked. In particular, as provided for the selection of real estate to be checked, the competent bodies of the municipalities hierarchied the need to clean the land and other open spaces and stadiums according to their position, as indicative:

  • Mixed Forest – Settlement
  • Inside or near areas with special protection regime (such as national parks, national parks, Natura areas, wildlife shelters, protected landscapes and protected natural formations, archaeological sites, historical sites, landscapes of natural beauty, etc.)
  • With proximity to forests, forests, parks, groves, etc.
  • with difficulty on the ways to remove population and emergency vehicles,
  • With its adjacent sensitive facilities (hospitals, schools, elderly childcare units, large population concentration areas, etc.)
  • Inside and near industrial parks and facilities with dangerous, flammable, chemical materials, etc.
  • with high or medium -voltage air cables
  • with frequency of fire events
  • With a small density of structured environment and the presence of many land and unsecured areas and stadiums with continuity and density of plant fuel

The above criteria even include the flammability of the type of forest vegetation, its continuity and density. It is noted that in the event of non -cleaning or false declaration, or non -submission of a statement – even in the case of a clear plot – the projected penalties are imposed, the site at the expense of the owner shall be cleaned and the competent authorities are informed.
