The 62 -year -old woman who had undergone the wrong blood transfusion to Tzanio Hospital died last night.
After special exams – as provided by medical protocols – it was decided to donate the two kidneys of the unfortunate 62 -year -old woman and the cornea.
However, due to a microbial developed and diagnosed at the last minute, the kidneys were not able to safely transplant the prospective recipients.
As for cornea, it is expected to complete the required exams to decide whether they can be transplanted.
The process of taking the grafts began after the brain tests on the woman over the weekend showed that they were cerebral dead.
Her funeral will take place in the coming days.
The time
The 62 -year -old fought for her life at the Tzanio Hospital, after a transfusion she needed, with a different blood group than her own.
The woman was admitted to the hospital with a light stroke, which would be treated conservatively in the neurological clinic. A few hours later, on the early morning of Wednesday, June 4, one of the 3 nurses who had a shift made accidental blood transfusioninstead of administering it to another patient in the same chamber.
The mistake was reportedly derived from the confusion of the nurse, who has been on a mandatory holiday until the incident is investigated.
At his expense, the Piraeus Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed a case of causing severe bodily harm.
