New possibilities and options for traveling for residents and visitors of Patras and the wider area by Hellenic Train, launching a new era for the city’s suburban railway.

As part of the continuous development of its services, the Hellenic Train has announced the new Tap in Train service on the suburban railway of Patras since Tuesday, July 15.

“Passengers will be easily, quickly and intact to make their online ticket purchase using their smartphone or bank card inside the train. Through a simplified process, the passenger chooses the ticket for the route he wants, as well as whether it is a full or discount ticket. The transaction process is completed with speed and safety, while Hellenic Train staff are available to the passenger public to answer any questions, ”the company said in a statement.

The new Tap in Train service, according to the same announcement, is accompanied by the redesigned schedule for the Patras Suburban Railway, which aims to fully meet the needs of the passenger public.

Specifically, from tomorrow, July 12, 2025, the Railway of the Suburban Patras are increased to 30 in total (from 20 to date) and at a time of one hour per direction – and are as follows:

* In the southern branch of Kaminia – Agios Andreas Patras from 06.30 to 21.30 and

* In the northern branch, Rio – Agios Andreas Patras from 06:30 to 23:30.

The distance between Patras and Rio is covered in 14 minutes and the distance between St. Andrew Patras and Kaminia, in 24 minutes.

The itineraries will run with six railbus -type automotives, which are fully refreshed and aesthetically upgraded to the passenger public, after extensive maintenance, damage and cleaning recovery.

The rail route grid is complemented by the Hellenic Train buses that connect:

* Kastelokampos with the University of Patras, the University Hospital of Rio and Saint Basil.

* Kato Achaia (temporarily until the projects are completed and the extension of rail routes to Lower Achaia).

“With the Tap in Train service, the redesigned route and renewal of our traffic material, we create a modern movement experience that always has the passenger at the center. We are working intensively to the continuous improvement of services provided for a safe, comfortable and enjoyable travel experience, ”commented Roberto Rinaudo, CEO of the Hellenic Train.

The upgrading of Patras’s suburban railway rail creates new options in the region’s movements and is part of the Hellenic Train strategy for the continued development of the company’s services to the passenger public.
