Controls and information actions of the Greek Police continue in the framework of the “Zero tolerance for Non -use helmet” campaign, with the aim of universal compliance of drivers and passengers, as well as EYPI users. (Light Personal Electric Vehicles).

It is recalled that, according to the Traffic Operational Traffic Operational Plan, police officers from all Traffic Services, Police Departments and OEPTAs. Throughout the country, they are carrying out strict controls on scooters as well as two -wheeler rental businesses, with particular emphasis on professional distributors and their employers.

In particular, 25,041 checks were carried out during the second week of action (7-13/7/2025), which confirmed 2,578 of drivers (of which 141 to distribution services) as well as 461 passenger violations.

Indicatively, among the violations, 2,404 were two -wheeled drivers (of which 141 distributors), 446 two -wheeled passengers, 113 EPIO drivers. and 55 ATV vehicles (“pigs”).

More specifically, per region, the following offenses were confirmed:

  • -936- in Attica,
  • -264- In the South Aegean,
  • -262- in Thessaloniki,
  • -248- in Western Greece,
  • -224- in Crete,
  • -218- In the Ionian Islands,
  • -204- In the Peloponnese,
  • -143- in Thessaly,
  • -123- In Central Macedonia,
  • -123- In Central Greece,
  • -115- in Epirus,
  • -91- In eastern Macedonia and Thrace,
  • -69- in the northern Aegean and
  • -19- in Western Macedonia.

It should be noted that, with the introduction of the new Road Traffic Code (Law 5209/2025), the state gives a clear message of zero tolerance to non -use of helmet, through the tightening of penalties as follows:

  • -350-euro fine and deduction of driving license for -30 days for the bicycle driver (the same penalties apply to the driver who does not ensure passenger safety).
  • -350-euro fine for bicycles.
  • -30-euro fine for the OPIO driver

According to police, the campaign is not aimed at imposing sanctions, but to change the perception of drivers and passengers on the mandatory use of certified helmet as a basic measure of life protection.

In addition to the strict controls, parallel information and awareness actions are being implemented, with the help of local government and the cooperation of professionals.

Indicatively, in Chania and Trikala, protective helmets were given to two -wheeled drivers, while similar actions with information leaflets were distributed in other prefectures.
