“The Coast Guard has achieved another decisive blow against organized crime, arresting leadership members of international cocaine cartel,” the Minister of Shipping V. Kikilias said in a report on X. Authorities on the Blume cargo ship, Togo flag, off the coast of Las Palmas.

“Congratulations to the men and women of the Coast Guard who perform their duty with self -denial and professionalism, day and night: they fight drug trafficking, protect our borders, save human lives,” the shipping minister said.

It is noted that the Coast Guard, and in particular executives of the Drug Enforcement and Smuggling Department of the Coast Guard – Greek Coast Guard, arrested three Greeks, allegedly leading members of a criminal organization with international action.

They are two men aged 24 and 68 and a 49 -year -old woman.

The arrests took place on Tuesday, July 15, in Aitoloakarnania and Attica, as part of a operation carried out after months of investigation and after arrest warrants of the Investigator of the 3rd Piraeus Court of First Instance.

The case concerns the transfer of a huge amount of cocaine, weighing 4,223.75 kg, found on January 18, 2023 by the Spanish authorities on the Blume cargo ship, Togo flag, off the coast of Las Palmas.

Investigations by the Greek authorities have revealed the establishment of a hierarchically structured criminal organization since the end of 2021, with those arrested carrying out a series of actions to create offshore companies and acquiring a suitable ship, through which they were planning to transport drugs from Brazil to Brazil.

During the seizure of the ship, 15 people were arrested and convicted by the Spanish authorities, while the estimated value of cocaine was € 164 million.
