The presence of the Police, as well as the overall mobilization in the protection zones for the surveillance of the restrictive measures taken to eradicate the blessing in the sheep, was requested by the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Christos Kellasin successive meetings he had today in Larissa, with the participation of the Regional Governor of Thessaly, Dimitris Kouretarepresentatives of the Police and Civil Protection, as well as mayors of the area.

“Our presence here today, with ministry executives, shows our anxiety and our reflection on the increase in blessing. The situation requires full responsibility ‘stated and added: “We would like to cooperate to comply with the measures provided for by the European Regulation – mainly cooperation of farmers.”

He highlighted the need for universal mobilization to address the epizooty affecting Thessaly, stressing that all stakeholders must assist in the work of the Authorities.

The Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food acknowledged that there was fatigue in the local community, but stressed that the state is on the side of farmers, stating that seven additional veterinarians were already available in Thessaly, as well as extraordinary staff during the eradication effort.

He stressed that the compensation was paid immediately and were twice as much as it was, and recalled that Prime Minister’s mandate, Kyriakos Mitsotakis to support livestock farming, was clear. In this context, he emphasized that immediate support is also launched covering the increase in animal breeding costs during the period that is limited to livestock farms.

Mr. Kellas referred to the decision of the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Costa Tsiarato create a special committee for managing the crisis of smallpox, noting that the goal is not only to deal with, but to complete the disease.

He recalled the importance of sheep and goats for Greek livestock production, noting that “Greek livestock farming is mainly sheep and goats, it is mainly a dairy productive, and because of this we do not want to risk our flagship product, the slice.”

Finally, Mr. Kellas spoke particularly about the government’s stance, saying that “From the first moment, just as we promised, we stood next to the farmers with high allowances and aid across the range – and we will continue to stand by their side until the problem disappears.”
