The presence of lifeguards on an organized Alexandroupolis beach proved to be two -stroke for a two -stroke as it had not been noticed by the adjacent bathers that the child was floating unconscious about five meters from the coast.

According to 22 -year -old lifeguard Athanasia Nuni -who provided first aid to the little one -the incident happened yesterday at 15.45 and she was -in the capacity of a lifeguard supervisor -to one of the three lifeguards.

As she recounts in the Athens Macedonian News Agency, her colleague of the lifeguard of this particular tower – 23 -year -old Elena Kapelou – identified and showed her the child to float with the face in the water.

“I ran directly into the water, I took it in my arms and saw that it was a very little girl who was floating without her senses. On the beach we saw that it was not breathing so we started with two fingers. After two rounds the little one returned and at about 16.00 was received by EKAB ”which -according to Mrs Nounis, was called by the lifeguard who had identified the child. “In the meantime, the grandmother and the mother of the young man had come, who, as they said, was looking for her and the child was admitted to the hospital and, as I know, is well,” the young lifeguard said.

Her love for the water element and her involvement with swimming from the age of four and at the age of 18 pushed her, as she says, to acquire a lifeguard license. Having a four -year service this year he works on the beaches of Alexandroupolis as a supervisor, and from September he will return to Thessaloniki from where he comes from and studied at the AUTH Pedagogical Department. “As a lifeguard I am close to the water, the element I love, and I feel I am offering help.

Our job is to prevent anything that can happen so that we do not reach the rescue. It is not easy because some swimmers find that they know the sea very well, they overestimate their strengths. But this is not the case because the sea is not controlled…. It is the second serious incident I face. Unfortunately the former had no good outcome as the 75 -year -old ended up because of the opposition, “says Ms Nounis.

Swimmer for 15 years, with a love for the wet element and, above all, with a social work of social work, says Elena Kapellou, a graduate of the Department of Business Administration of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, originally from Corfu. She acquired a lifeguard license five years ago and works for a second year as a lifeguard on the beaches of Alexandroupolis.

It is noted that the Municipality of Alexandroupolis has a lifeguard (human resources, necessary lifeguard equipment) on all its busy beaches. In addition to protecting the bathers, it is granted during the summer season and until September 15th in beach bars along the coastal belt of automatic external defibrillators who come from spaces that remain closed such as elementary conservatory, schools and more during the summer.
