The decision of the Minister of the Interior Thodoris Lebanese was announced today on the inclusion of the project “Upgrading Evzones Border Station”, with a total budget of 24,625,695 euros in the Public Investment Program.
The purpose of the project is to repair and upgrade the facilities at the Evzones Border Station, with the aim of effectively improving the services and better serving the large volume of crossings.
The aim is the Evzone border station, at the Greece’s border with Northern Macedonia, to acquire modern facilities, to become more functional, for workers to do their work with optimal conditions and, in particular, to provide better services and to serve the citizens in the best possible way.
“The interventions that will be made at the Evzones border station are crucial. The project will make a decisive contribution to normalizing citizens’ transit and in addition to the faster processing of crossings. To understand the necessity of the interventions, the number of annual crossings from the Evzones, which reach 2.5 million, is indicative. Which makes the Evzone border station the country’s largest land gate. Its upgrade is considered imperative, as the existing situation, among other things, makes it difficult for the passport, customs and veterinary – veterinary control procedures. Upgrading the station is an important investment for the region, boosting the national economy and facilitating regional cooperation. This is a project of national strategic importance, “said the secretary of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia – Thrace, Dimitris Galamatis.
As part of the project, the following basic interventions are scheduled:
-Architectural and Energy Upgrading: Modernization of modern, environmentally friendly materials, reducing energy footprint and improve working conditions and service conditions.
-Circular upgrade: Optimizing the road network within the transit point to minimize delays and smooth vehicle flow.
-Adaptation to Union regulations: Compliance with the European Union’s requirements for cross -border transportation of persons and goods.
The project will contribute to the adoption of “good practices” and will enhance the prestige of Greece as a country that effectively manages its land diodes.
Upon completion of the project, the Evzone border point will be able to successfully respond to modern needs, offering safe, fast and effective services to all travelers.
The project will be implemented by the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia – Thrace, in the context of its responsibilities to upgrade the installations of the country’s land stations.
