Successfully completed his work Interdisciplinary environmental conference on topical “In the sake of the water …”which focused on viability and sustainability of the Thessalian plain. The conference was held in Karditsa, on September 1, 2025, just two years after the large floods that tried the area.

The event was under the auspices of the Archbishop of Athens and all Greece. Hieronymus and was initiated by the Special Synodical Committee of Divine and Political Economy and Ecology, under the Metropolitan of Fthiotida, Mr. Symeon, in collaboration with the Holy Metropolis of Thessaly and Lanterns and Metropolitan Timotheos.

Scientific sessions and themes

On the second day, the Spiritual Center of the Church of Hagia Sophia Karditsa hosted three sessions. A total of twelve suggestions were presented by distinguished scientists Various branches, which have developed concerns and proposals for the management of the natural and social environment.

Central themes of the dialogue were:

  • OR environmental and the psychological dimension of ecological consciousness.
  • The effects of climate change and her water scarcity in Thessaly.
  • The need for sustainable agricultural policies.
  • The adoption of a holistic approach to water as a natural good, spiritual symbol and social right.

Particular emphasis was placed on the role of Church In the formation of environmental consciousness, as well as in promoting the dialogue between theology, sciences and society to tackle sustainability and management of natural resources.

Conclusions, thanks and prospects

The conference was completed with thanks to rapporteurs, participants and representatives of bodies and competent authorities. Separate references were made to the work of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaly and Lanterns and in collaboration with local communities.

Metropolitan Fthiotidas, Mr. Symeon, pointed out the warm hospitality and active participation of the local bodies in the event, while Metropolitan of Thessaly Mr. Timothy underlined the importance of Thessaly’s choice as a place of organizing such an important environmental conference.

Common finding was necessity cooperation Church, State and Scientific Community for the formation of responsible environmental stance and to ensure a sustainable perspective for the Thessalian plain and the whole of the natural environment.
