New permanent teachers, new structure in the curriculum, literary books, “Premiere” for Public Onassic Schools, but also … vegetable gardens in the courtyards “brings”, among other things, the new school year, which officially begins on Thursday, September 11th.
Appointments of permanent and alternates
With the placements of new permanent teachers, as well as the recruitment of alternates before ringing the first bell of the school year, the Ministry of Education aims to find schools to the maximum readiness for the beginning of the new school year.
In total, in August 2025, 8,223 appointments of permanent teachers were made: 5,627 General Education teachers and 3,196 special education and education teachers. At the same time, 993 members of Special Education Personnel (SPD) and Special Auxiliary Personnel (EBP) were appointed, raising the total number of appointments in Education for 2025 at 9,816.
In addition, the first phase of the recruitment of 18,566 primary and secondary education teachers, in Special Education and Education and General Education, in order to be in the schools in time, in order to ensure their smooth operation. At the same time, the recruitment of 6,225 members of Special Education Personnel (SPD) and Special Auxiliary Personnel (EBP) for Special Education Schools (UAE), Parallel Support, Interdisciplinary Evaluation Centers, Counseling and Support and Support (KEDASY) and EDASY) were announced.
It is also worth noting that the ministry had proceeded from the previous school year to set up 600 new psychologists and 600 new social workers for 3,000 schools. Their presence is about psychosocial support and counseling in families, children and the school community in general.
Changes in the curriculum
During the new school year, 2025-26, a new plan for the curriculum of all elementary and high school classes will be implemented, with the aim of giving more freedom to teachers, which is an opportunity for the Ministry and IEP. “More targeted and meaningful teaching, with respect to the rhythm of each student and the needs of the school group.”
The learning targets Each subject of subject has been reorganized, being divided into two categories:
1. Basic – Mandatory, which ensures fundamental knowledge and skills needed for all students, and
2. Additional – optional, enabling the teacher to choose what he will also teach and adapt teaching to the interests, levels and particularities of his or her class.
It is worth noting that this new design of the curriculum is in harmony with the implementation of the new curricula and the multiple book system, which is expected to be implemented in 2026-27.
According to RES-EIA sources, final announcements about the new structure of matter are expected immediately before the opening of schools.
On the way to the multiple book
Although the books that students will receive this year will be the same compared to last year. However, in the end of September, the new classes for all classes are expected to be delivered to the teachers through the digital library. Thus, they will have the time needed to choose the books that they will work with in the context of the multiple book institution and to properly prepare their teaching. The purpose is to make the final selection of books they will use for each lesson in the spring of 2026. In print, the new books are expected to be distributed to schools in September 2026, replacing today.
The “philosophy” of the multiple book, however, will come closer to the students, through books with integrated literary works in the Literature lesson, but also with the Evivlio platform (https://evivlio.gov.gr/), where educational and literary books are available in digital format (Audiobooks).
‘First Bell’ again and… otherwise
In 431 school units in the territory, the “first bell” will ring again, with modernized infrastructure through the Marietta Giannakou program, while at the same time, the “Premiere” will make all 12 Public Onassis Schools in Attica, Macedonia and Thrace.
Particular emphasis has been placed on the part of the government and ministry on the reopening, after 17 years, of the Primary School in Pserimos, so that the two young students who completed the kindergarten on the island would not have to move to Kalymnos. As has been announced this, with the start of the school year, a teacher will be placed either by the newcomers or through the posting of a teacher from Kalymnos.
In addition, for the first time, the bell will ring for the Petroussa Battalion of Drama, and for the daily General High School of Milies based in Kala Nera Magnesia, as well as in the first professional high school that will operate in a prison in the prisons.
Economically in Gymnasium
The students of the 3rd High School will have a new lesson this year, that of finances. The aim of the ministry is, through financial literacy, for children to become familiar with concepts, such as the value of savings, the management of income, the operation of markets, the concept of entrepreneurship.
Vegetable gardens in kindergartens and elementary
In selected kindergarten and elementary schoolswill be implemented during this year’s school year (2025-26) the program “Vegetables in Schools: We are working with critical thinking and vision we work together, rejoice, create”, with the aim of combining sustainable development with pedagogical practice.
According to what was announced by the Ministry of Education at the end of the previous school year, the schools participating in the program will obtain Metal flower beds, soil, gardening shovels, greenhouses, watering and seed set For the first crops, to create the appropriate infrastructure for the implementation of actions.
Second “season” for digital tutorial
The digital tutorial program, which is characterized by the Ministry of Education “extremely successful”, will continue its operation this year as well.
