The dynamics intervention of the PEOPM for the recycling of waste was highlighted as part of the 89th Thessaloniki International Exhibition, with the characteristic slogan “Did you fly it? It disappeared? Do you know where it is?”. The aim of the initiative is to actively participate in citizens in proper management and Recycling of Excavations, Construction & Demolition Wastes (AEKK) through collective actions.
During the event hosted at the Pavilion of the Ancem, Volunteers by Environmental Organizations “Surgeon of nature” and “Cleaningans” They presented to the visitors, with the help of a microscope, the insistence of microplastics in the sand and the huge environmental load caused by the waste. Impressive was the demonstration of product packages found in voluntary coastal cleaning, dated 1980s, highlighting the size and timelessness of the problem.
According to PEOPM CEO Elias Dimitriadis, “The message we want to get through with the help of environmental organizations is that yes they clean, but it always remains a footprint, the microplastics”. As he noted, while there are ‘heavy’ and cleaner currents who through breakage returns as inert to technical works, special weight is given to “dirty” currentsthat is, waste and renovation waste.
The microplastics and the invisible footprint
Mr Dimitriadis pointed out that these synthetic waste, if rejected uncontrollably, are degraded slowly, never disappearing. “They turn into increasingly smaller particles that end up on various paths even in the human body”he stressed.
Management of bulky and citizen involvement
The CEO described the bulky and the “debris” as the “hot theme” of the time for the waste management industry. As he stated, “It’s a ‘forgotten’ stream, which again concerns the citizen, as he sees it daily on the road.”. He spoke of honorable efforts in cooperation with the municipalities to eliminate the piles of waste from public places.
Concluding, Mr. Dimitriadis made it clear that Without the participation of citizens There can be no substantial recycling. “Whatever the PEOPM and the bodies do, the citizen must be convinced to win again the confidence in the recycling process and the proper management of waste”he underlined.
