Meeting was held at Vice Region of Chania with the aim of coordinating the competent bodies to deal with lack of irrigation water In the Varipetrou TOEB. The situation mainly threatens crops avocado of the area, while immediate measures are aimed at both meeting the current needs and managing the phenomenon during the rest of the irrigation period.

The president of the president attended the meeting Development Organization of CreteAris Papadogiannis, executives of the Organization, the President of the Varipetrou Apostolos Voulgarakis, the Vice President of DEYAX Niki Apostolakis along with the General Manager Nikos Gazis, as well as representatives of the producers. Also present was the Vice -Mayor of Civil Protection George Tsapakos, while executives from the Directorate of Technical Works, the Department of the Environment of the Regional Unit of Chania and the producers of the area participated.

Enhance cooperation for solutions to the water problem

During the debate the need closer cooperation among the bodies. A decision was made on mutual concessions in order to ensure the supply of water to all users, with particular attention to the Varipetrou TOEB and in view of the critical next period.

Also discussed the immediate launch of specific infrastructure Through the collaboration of the Technical University of Crete, the Crete Development Organization and the TOEB, with the aim of ‘Avoid such problems in the future’as typically pointed out.

Cleaning Lake Agia and protection of wetland

Vice -Mayor Nikos Kalogeris announced the intention for immediate start Pilot cleaning of part of the materials on Lake Agia. Emphasized the need for a clear commitment to all attendees in order to ensure the required amount of water for the Maintenance and protection of wetland of the area.
