OR Consumer Association of Greece (EEKE) participates in her celebration European day without a car performed at September 22inviting all citizens to leave their car for a day and to prefer public transport (MMMs) to their movements.
As ECEK points out in its announcement, this day is “An opportunity to consider the environmental impact of car use and promote alternative forms of movement that are more environmentally friendly and our health.”.
Serious impacts of excessive use of a car
According to ELSTAT’s latest data for 2024, in Greece they are released 6.027.946 cars, of which 5.994.386 is privately used while the number of motorcycles reach the 1.851.620of which 1.841.304 They are passenger. The large number of vehicles, especially in urban centers, creates a complex problem grid: traffic congestionair pollution, noise pollution and frequent difficulties of access to roads and sidewalks.
Adopting viable alternatives to moving
The Consumer Association of Greece advises citizens to turn to more ecological and financial Moving options, suggesting:
- Use Public Transportation on daily routes
- Utilizing applications and websites to update on routes
- Participation in common commutes with colleagues or friends
- Adoption of cycling and walking for short distances
In its announcement, EKEKE points out: “The European day without a car is a reminder and urging for the lifestyle we could adopt daily throughout the year. Moving with the MMMs, by bike or if it allows it to be as often as we can, mitigate our expenditure and, above all, improves our health both physical and mental. So let’s make a good “savings and economy” health stocks for us and our children. Let’s make the city where we move viable for everyone ».
