Teachers’ call to participate in tomorrow’s strike, announced by ADEDY and the EU, were addressed by the Educational Federations, ILO, OLME and OEEL.
The federations, representing public and private teachers, are claiming the withdrawal of the Labor Ministry’s bill, the abolition of new disciplinary law, the reinstatement of the 13th and 14th salaries, increases in their remuneration and the signing of collective contracts and public contracts.
Specifically, as stated in a statement by OLME, with the Ministry of Labor’s bill, “the fixed and predictable working time is abolished in practice and is finally a tombstone in the 8 hours”.
“The bill abolishes any protective dialog to inform and protect the rights of the employee. At the same time, any possibility of collective protection and representation of workers from their unions on the issue of working hours and working time is removed, making the employee agreeing stronger than collective bargaining and claims. In essence, the arrangement of working time becomes an individual affair, a developmental development for the possibility of negotiating each employee against his employer, ”he said.
“We are joining our voice with the whole world of work,” OIELE said, referring to “deteriorating labor relations” and noting: “Private schools have lost 40% of their staff in just 4.5 years. In foreign language centers and tutorials, conditions are dramatic. In the private SAEK (formerly IEK) teachers are paid five times less than their public colleagues, although these units have quadrupled their turnover after the EBE was implemented. In a few years, the huge gaps that are now observed in tourism, catering and primary production will also appear in education. “
