Full Glass: Trail reproduces ‘Idiot Putin’ label to help Ukrainian brewer

by

Taking care of the production of new labels is no longer a priority at the Pravda brewery. Located in Lviv, near the Ukrainian border with Poland, the factory switched from new labels a few weeks ago to making Molotov cocktails in an effort to stem the Russian army’s offensive in the city.

Despite presenting itself as “artisanal” and focusing on recipes of more varied styles, Pravda has grown a lot since its opening in 2014, and already had an industrial scale production of more than 1.5 million liters per year before Russia take the war inside the country.

“Brassar [uma cerveja] now —like having a child or getting married—is hope,” recently posted the Ukrainian brewery, which also released some of its recipes so that other breweries around the world could reproduce them —usually, breweries keep their recipes as a state secret, releasing them in full is rare.

The message touched people from Trilha, from Perdizes (western region of São Paulo), who had just reproduced one of Pravda’s most popular labels, Putin Huylo, a golden ale with 8% alcohol content.

The name of the beer makes a mockery of the Russian president’s name, of course. Something that in English would be like a “Putin Dickhead”, or “Idiot Putin”, in a softer translation. “As a brewery, we understand that our role needs to be much greater than that of producing and selling beer. Difficult times awaken us even more to the great privilege that it is to make beer. brew with joy again. May the whole country find peace again”, posted the Trail, alongside its reproduction of Putin Huylo.

The beer is available at the Trilha taproom (R. Apinajés, 137, Perdizes) and on the online e-commerce store (loja.trilhacervejaria.com.br), in a 500 ml bottle, for R$ 30. See more information in the brewery profile. on Instagram (@trilhacervejaria). All the money raised with Putin Huylo will be sent to the Ukrainian brewery.
