With a sense of honor and with the flag on the web of the Acropolis Sacred Rock, today the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Athens from the troops of the German occupation, was held in the presence of the President of the Republic, Constantine Tasoula.

Six members of the Greek High School Dance Group in national costumes, holding the flag of liberation and framed by students and students of the Ionian School, came to the site of the tissue. The flag was handed over to the men of the presidential guard followed by the pride, while the flag anthem was playing. After the pride, the Air Force band raised the national anthem.

The government was represented by Deputy Minister of Interior Vassilis Spanakis, while representatives of political, state and military leadership, as well as members of the Church, attended.

“Today, we honor those who fought and sacrificed for democracy,” he said in his speech, the Mayor of Athens Haris Doukas, and then stressed: “81 years ago, the swastika descended from the Acropolis and in its place was re -raised. 81 years later, the messages of this anniversary remain dramatically timely. At a time when fanaticism, hate speech, the depreciation of politics and opacity again threaten our values, we have a responsibility to defend democracy and social cohesion. The patriotism of resistance must become a patriotism of social responsibility today. “
