Moored in ports across the country the ships will remain today Wednesday, April 6thas the administration of the Panhellenic Maritime Federation (PNO) decided to participate in 24 hour strike of GSEE.
The strike concerns all categories of ships and is nationwide.
“All employees of the country, regardless of specialties and separations, want and seek stable employment with decent working conditions and pay in a quality, safe and healthy environment. These, moreover, are the axes on which the Planning of our action for 2022 was approved by our recent General Council ” PNO mentions in its announcement.
The union of seafarers calls for the repeal of the law on the organic composition of passenger ships and to redefine the number of each specialty, according to the real needs of the ships in order to achieve as emphasized the safety of itineraries, passengers and crew.
It also calls for a review of the composition of the speedboats, with explicit provision and introduction of double crews, in order to faithfully observe the limits and hours of employment, both on a daily and weekly basis, is the main obligation of the State.
“It is necessary to take all necessary measures to immediately address and combat the ‘black’ uninsured work by simultaneously establishing a permanent system of financial support and protection for unemployed seafarers by immediately increasing the unemployment benefit and providing free care for themselves and their families.” emphasizes the ΠΝΟ.
It is also added that the trade union federation of seafarers insists on its positions for maintaining, upgrading public character and free training and retraining with immediate coverage of shortages of teachers and other necessary staff.
