His deep sorrow for the loss of the great Dionysis Savvopoulosthe Deputy Prime Minister expresses in his statement, Kostis Hatzidakis.

Here is his statement:

“The Dances of the great Dionysius Savvopoulos, who left today, by Truck – with or without a Reserve – for his last long journey, will last forever. Some twenty days ago, we had told Aspa, his wife, to meet at their house, together with Popi, to talk. We didn’t make it.

Dionysis is gone, but Balos, Kourema, Chronopoioios, all his great records and all his songs from “Synnefoula” to “Sou milo ka kokinizeis” remain in our memory and in our hearts. I’ve loved his music since I was a kid. He accompanies me to this day, he will accompany me along with many other Greeks from now on. Dionysis will always stand out for his special style, for his unique ability to combine different musical genres and for his inventive lyrics that speak directly to our souls.

Personally, I will always remember this very special Saloniki artist who influenced generations and generations and lifted us “up to the heavenly bodies” with his music. But apart from being a great artist, Dionysis Savvopoulos was an active citizen, who bravely expressed his views on important political and social issues. He delighted us for decades with his unique way of speaking, while at the same time teaching with his artistic ethos. A great loss for all of us his fans, for all Greeks. Have a nice trip, Dionysi! Condolences to Aspa and the children!”.
