The distinguished conductor Giorgos Niarchos suddenly passed away, plunging the Greek music scene into sadness.
His death was announced by his wife, actress and speaker Mara Thrasyvoulidou, with a post on social networks.
“My beloved husband, the wonderful man and talented composer, arranger and pianist Giorgos Niarchos passed away suddenly yesterday afternoon, October 28. I lost the man who loved me so much and protected me all my life. He was my mentor, my teacher, the whole universe. His funeral, for those who want to honor him, will be held on Friday, October 31, at the Holy Church of Agios Tryfons, in the Cemetery of Kifissia, at 1:00 p.m.
George Niarchos was born in Athens. He studied piano and advanced theory in Athens and Vienna, composition and conducting.
He had orchestrated and conducted thrice in her competition Eurovision and served as its artistic director and conductor-arranger Thessaloniki Festival for a number of years, as well as its arranger and conductor ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra.
Riche orchestrated and directed many musical theaters of Athens, performances and concerts in Herodiusconcerts with Marinella and Giorgos Dalaras at Megaron Musikis and all over Greece.
He participated in many festivals and inaugurated important theaters with Greek operetta. He had given many concerts all over Greece and abroad, while he had been honored with many gold and platinum records for his collaborations with the first names of the Greek pentagram.
