Karamanlis: There will be no uneven junction in Varybobi – What will apply to tolls

by

The assurance that there will be no tolls, as well as that the uneven junction in Varybobi will not be built, was given by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Costas Karamanlis, in the context of the parliamentary control.

Mr. Karamanlis explained that the government has given a three-year suspension to the implementation of the side toll stations at the Varybombi and Agios Stefanos junctions, as well as the Schimatari Frontal Toll Station, while at the same time proceeding with the procedures for the new electronic toll system, where there will be charge.

“Suspension of tolls, until the competition of proportional tolls. “There will be no side tolls”, clarified the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, thus finally ending the issue of tolls. He noted that the SYRIZA government had renegotiated the concession agreement after “the era of Varoufakis madness and capital controls”, had signed environmental terms with side tolls in 2018 and had subsequently also suspended, but never resolved the issue definitively, since he did not proceed to the electronic / analog tolls. He also pointed out that for this reason Mr. Skourletis’s question was not co-signed by Mr. Spirtzis and Mr. Famellos. “In the amendment and the renegotiation of the concession agreement, you had the opportunity to say that tolls should not be entered in Varybobi. Did you do it? No. You did not do that either. “But you come here and accuse the government that has found a solution”, stressed Mr. Karamanlis. He stated that it was SYRIZA that set tolls in Egnatia and now wants to teach lessons to the government of New Democracy.

“Do you have the political audacity to come here and talk about unbridled neoliberalism, you who made the Superfund and sold TRAINOSE for 45 million euros, five million less than what it receives from the Greek State for the barren lines”, Mr. Karamanlis noted. “We did not give any dowry to the contractors, as your government gave 750 million euros,” the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport also told SYRIZA. “On the Left you have a very good relationship with fairy tales,” he continued, commenting that SYRIZA can not face the right reason.

Mr. Karamanlis also stated that the junction in Varybobi will not become uneven, as the local bodies disagree, with whom he and the general secretaries and services of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport have repeatedly spoken. He said that his personal opinion is that this is wrong, but he will respect the opinion of the local community.

In closing, he reiterated that there would be no tolls in Varybobi and no uneven junction, stressing that “We must put an end to political lies and political fraud.”
