Antonis Sykaris: Who was the leading Greek climber who went missing in the Himalayas

Great is the grief for his loss Antonis Sykaris. The leading Greek climber passed away at the age of 60 after feeling very unwell while descending Mount Daulagiri which belongs to the Himalayas.

The great climber, according to the information that became known from his camp a few hours ago, felt discomfort while descending the mountain and ended up at an altitude of 7,400 meters. The deceased and his driver, Dava Serpa, had climbed the 8,167m high mountain on Monday.

The company Seven Summit Treks mobilized by sending a team to rescue Dava Serpa and to collect the body of the undefeated athlete, while his family has already been informed about the loss.

THE Antonis Sykaris He was born in 1962 and with his wife Kalliopi Koni they had two children, Violeta and Giannis, while they also had a granddaughter, Iris. In 1976 he founded the homonymous chain of electrical appliances stores “SYKARIS”, with 28 points of sale, 400 employees and an annual turnover of 60 million euros, which until 2006 he owned. Since 2006 he was CEO of ALPI SA, with activities – Real Estate, Self Storages, Student Residences, Energy Production. Since 1991 he was a member of the Association of Greek Mountaineers SEO and the Hellenic Mountaineering and Climbing Federation EOOA.

He was an athlete of the leading Marmot company, Marmot Mountain Europe. He was also a member of Team Garmin Greece, a member of Team 100 Mentors, also of the Board of Directors of Blue Cedar AEEAP. He was an Inspirational-Motivational Speaker at companies, Universities, events and at Tedx, as well as a goodwill ambassador for the schools of Avgouleas Linardatou.

Antonis Sykaris was the only Greek who has climbed 5 of the 14 octave peaks of the land of the top Grand slam mountaineering project:
