When I visited the communist country of the United States of America, back in the last century, I was taken by friends to a bar in a hippie community on the coast of California, just north of San Francisco.
After the occasional beer, I had to pee. Someone showed me the way to the restrooms, and when I got there, I was surprised: the little doors weren’t separated by sex.
Instead, a place holder was intended for people with initials “A” through “M”; the other, for bearers of names starting from “N” to “Z”. I was confused, because I didn’t know if the first name (“Marcos”) or the last name (“Nogueira”) was worth it.
When in doubt, I chose anyone. It was, of course, a joke by the owners of the establishment.
The division of bathrooms by sex or other type of identity affinity is advisable when there are people changing in the area of the sinks – such as, for example, in changing rooms at clubs and gyms.
If the washbasin is open and common, it matters little who will occupy the individual cabins. Men and women produce excretions, noises and odors. There was already a unisex bathroom in the late Aeroanta disco, in the 1980s, and no one was scandalized by it.
Then, in the middle of 2021, an aunt of the zap Pocketnarista denounces –attention to the term: denounce– a McDonald’s in Bauru (SP) for promoting communism by offering closed and individual booths for free use for any sex or gender. The city’s mayor, of the same ilk, decided to fine the cafeteria for health violations.
I have some questions for these ladies.
Do you separate the bathrooms at home by sex or do you only have one in the back, tiny and with inferior dishes, reserved for the maid?
Do you scandalize and spread videos on zap when boys and girls use the same bathroom at a friend’s house?
If the ladies’ room is closed for maintenance, do you go to the men’s room or do you pee in the cup?
What do you suggest for small businesses, with space for just one toilet? Carvery? Men in the even hours and women in the odd ones?
Does the Mayor have any notion of sanitary norms and their infractions?
Do you have any idea what communism is?
Do you have any idea what McDonald’s is?
One of the two: either the Méqui has become a den of infiltrated communists or the Forum of Bauru is conspiring against the competing sandwiches.
