Thessaloniki: A 24-year-old man in prison for a month for sexually harassing an 11-year-old

A 24-year-old man is being held in prison for a month, who was convicted for sexually harassing an 11-year-old boy in the toilets of a shopping center in Thessaloniki. The Single Member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki found him guilty of insult of sexual dignity and sentenced him to 2 years in prison.

On special grounds, the Court ruled that accused he will have to serve a month in a detention center while he suspended the remainder of his sentence. According to the decision, the sentence becomes immediately enforceable, as no suspensive force was given to the appeal.

Apologizing, the 24-year-old, originally from Iraq, denied the act, giving his own version of the incident that the minor had reported last February. The mother of the 11-year-old testified as a prosecution witness, describing what her son conveyed to her.

The perpetrator was stopped by patrons of the mall and then arrested. His identity data and photographs had been made public by a special order of the Thessaloniki Prosecutor’s Office.
