Payments Week, the Big Week starting today, during which – except public salaries, pensions and Easter gift for private employees – will be completed € 500 million intervention given by the government to citizens and professionals, in order to alleviate the unbearable burden that households and businesses are lifting from its consequences energy crisis from the war in Ukraine.
Speaking to SKAI, he gave the “ladder” of payments Minister of Economy Christos Staikouras, explaining that about half of the billion that will be given this week concerns the “accuracy check” of 200 euros, aid to farmers and stockbreeders (a total of 47 million euros), the subsidy of 200 euros for taxis and the subsidy of fuel. A subsidy that Mr. Staikouras did not rule out continuing and expanding. “Most likely this will have to be expanded and expanded in the next period,” he said, adding that “it will be a function of the needs of the possibilities and the priorities that the prime minister will put in consultation that we will make together.”
New meeting on the national approach to energy
This week is also expected new meeting at the Maximos Palace in order to put on the table all the proposals of the competent Ministers to address the energy issue.

The second scenario that is being discussed is its continuation existing subsidy on electricity bills for households and businesses, however increasing the amount of the subsidy. This would increase the cost of government intervention to deal with the energy crisis, but for the time being this seems to be possible. Moreover, the Prime Minister himself for the umpteenth time from Crete clarified that even if there is no intervention at European level for a common solution, the solution will be given at national level, acknowledging the suffocation caused by households and businesses by energy price increases.

These are initiatives that are planned and will be announced within the next month, towards May “.
The same and Deputy Minister of Finance Theodoros Skylakakis, also speaking to SKAI left open the possibility of changes in the system of subsidies for electricity and gas, talking about a multi-level network of interventions to address energy accuracy and inflation that the government is working on. He explained, however, that the final decisions depend on the corresponding European ones, which in turn are expected to be influenced by the outcome of the French elections.
In addition, in May, the Ministry of Finance expects decision of the Commission for the fiscal policy of 2023 and depending on the course of the deficit, the margins for further fiscal interventions will be formed.
Along with energy, the government continues to keep high on its agenda and improving everyday life of citizens and services provided by the state by intensively pursuing reforms.
