Clarifications regarding the electrical accident near Agios Nikolaos that cost the life of the foreman of the grinding machine, were issued by STA.SY. .

Regarding what has been made public, regarding the tragic event in Line 1 of the Metro, STA.SY. clarifies:

• According to the information from the Contractor Company, the damage recorded in the said grinding machine on August 22, concerned the grinding system and had nothing to do with the braking system. The “derailment” was the small displacement of one of the 6 axes of the machine off track. The crane of STA.SY., which can be seen in the photos that were published, was called precautionarily, without having to try. The wheel was reset with hand tools.
• Regarding the complaints of the employee representative in the Board. of STA.SY. for an incident of fire in the same grinding machine of the Contractor Company in Line 3 of the Metro, it is clarified that the grinding works with a corresponding machine have not yet started in Line 3.
• The maintenance of the machines is the sole responsibility of the Contractor Company. “SCHWEERBAU GMBH & CO KG” during the Competition, presented the required Certificates for the execution of the project, as well as Safety and Hygiene Certificates for grinding works, which it has from a recognized, International Certification Body.
• From the first moment, STA.SY. with an out-of-court settlement sent to the German company, requested the suspension of the execution of the works until the completion of the investigation of the accident, reserving even for the termination of the contract. At the same time, an Accident Investigation Committee is set up with the participation of an external, independent expert. Η ΣΤΑ.ΣΥ. has requested explanations and seeks responsibilities from the Contractor Company, while assisting the Authorities in the work of investigating the case.
