The Environmental Center for the Protection of Wildlife and the Natural Environment “Arcturos”, in Nymfaio, Florina, at an altitude of 1350 meters, was visited by the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
The Center is housed in the Nikeio School, built in 1928, with a donation from the Nymphaeum Benefactor Ioannis Nikou. In this School, until 1941, the Half High School operated and until 1980 the Primary School.
Ms. Sakellaropoulou was welcomed at the Nikeio School by the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Insurance Domna Michailidou, who is touring in Western Macedonia, the Deputy Regional Governor of Florina Sotiris Vosdou, the Mayor of Amyntaio Pefritzos and former mayor of Thessaloniki Giannis Boutaris.
The director of “Arcturos” Alexandros Karamanlidis guided the President of the Republic to the Environmental Center and informed her about the life and protection of the bear and the information provided to visitors and students who come to the Center with organized excursions.
Special mention was made in the passages of the bear created on the Egnatia Odos. Ms. Sakellaropoulou noted that when she was serving in the Council of State, the Court had dealt with relevant cases.
Then the President of the Republic walked to the center of Nymphaeum and talked to residents and visitors.
In the afternoon they will visit the bear shelter in a fenced area of 50 acres, reminiscent of their natural environment.
