Immediately all Christians were baptized. Then Saint Irene traveled to several places where she taught the word of God and performed many miracles.

In the end Saint Irene retired to a deserted place outside Ephesus where she lived with prayer and practice.

In her Synaxari it is mentioned that in Ephesus Saint Irene found one larnacain which no one had been buried until then, entered it and slept peacefully.

Before her sleep, Agia Irini had ordered that no one move the tombstone, with which her teacher Apellianos would cover the shrine, before four days had passed. However, after two days, Apellianos and the others visited the tomb, who saw that the tombstone was raised and the shrine was empty.

According to the western Martyrology, Agia Irini martyred in Thessaloniki, after being thrown into the fire, while according to the Monthly of the emperor Basil II, Agia Irini was martyred by beheading.
