56-year-old arrested for courier fraud – The trick with the mobile phone and the way his spiral works

As for the course of action, the defendants appeared as potential buyers of high value mobile phones, and after agreeing on the price with the respective sellers, they arranged for the purchase and sale to be completed through the process of cash on delivery through a courier company.

The defendants then used fake profiles and pretended to be mobile phone sellers, sending an e-mail to the courier company ‘s branch that had delivered the mobile phone, stating a supposedly agreed reduction in the amount of cash on delivery, usually about one tenth of what was originally agreed. . After a while the buyer appeared at the branch and received the parcel, paying the reduced amount of money, according to what was mentioned in the e-mail he had sent.

In order to make their identification more difficult, the defendants used forged identification documents when receiving the parcel from the branch.

For the arrest of the perpetrator, a special group of police officers was set up, which discreetly supervised a courier branch in Kifissia, which was to buy and sell a mobile phone in the same way. As soon as the 56-year-old appeared with a fake ID card to receive the parcel, he was arrested.

From the pre-investigation investigation of the Security Department of Kifissia, an additional 12 cases of fraud were investigated with the same methodology. A search of the 56-year-old’s home turned up and confiscated various third-party documents.

The arrested person was taken to the Athens Court of First Instance, while the investigation continues to locate his accomplices.
