Fernando de Noronha releases New Year’s Eve and dispenses mask in open places

The government of Pernambuco announced this Thursday (28) the release of New Year’s Eve parties in the Fernando de Noronha archipelago, one of the most sought after destinations in the country for year-end celebrations.

The state administration also decided that, as of November 17, the use of masks will no longer be mandatory in Noronha’s open spaces.

The new measures, which overturn restrictions created to contain Covid, were announced at a press conference at the Campo das Princesas palace, headquarters of the Pernambuco government, in Recife.

According to the government’s determination, as of Monday (1), the dissemination of New Year’s parties in Fernando de Noronha is authorized, including in public spaces.

For now, therefore, the schedule of attractions on the stage traditionally set up in the port of Santo Antônio is not yet known. There is also an expectation of what will be disclosed for the celebrated private parties.

The government stated, however, that, for the time being, there is no forecast for releasing New Year’s Eve celebrations in other regions of the state.

“We’re going to have a vaccinated New Year’s Eve. The population of Fernando de Noronha deserved this party for everything they’ve been through since the beginning of the pandemic. We’re happy to be able to provide this after such difficult days, with so many restrictions,” said the administrator of the place, Guilherme Rock.

“Fortunately the worst is over. Now it’s time to celebrate, with responsibility but with a lot of joy and hope for better days,” he added.

Since September, Noronha has had 100% of the adult population vaccinated with two doses against the coronavirus, according to state management data. The place was the first in Pernambuco to vaccinate all audiences provided for in the PNI (National Immunization Program).

The new rule for masks, which can be dispensed outdoors from the 17th, also does not apply to other parts of Pernambuco, the authorities said.

“Unfortunately this achievement [da retirada da obrigatoriedade da máscara] it cannot be extended to the rest of the state, because there are no sanitary conditions for it. We need to advance further in vaccination so that measures like these can reach the continent,” said the state secretary of Health, André Longo.

According to data from the consortium of press vehicles, of which the sheet part, Pernambuco has a total of 4,639,243 people fully vaccinated against Covid, that is, 48% of the population.

The government of Pernambuco also informed this Thursday that more than 500,000 people have their second dose overdue in the state.

Full immunization against Covid is ensured in Brazil with the receipt of two doses in the case of vaccines from AstraZeneca, Coronavac and Pfizer or the single dose from Janssen.

In Fernando de Noronha, from December 1st, only tourists with full vaccination against Covid will be allowed to disembark. This measure had already been announced in September.

To prove immunization, the visitor must use the digital vaccination card, which can be accessed through the portals Conecta SUS Cidadão, of the Ministry of Health, Passe Verde (of the local administration) or Conecta Recife (for residents of the capital of Pernambuco).

Currently, the protocol requires at least one dose of Covid vaccine from tourists. People who have received only one application of the immunizing agent must, in addition to proving partial vaccination, present a negative RT-PCR or IgG antibody test by serology. Only laboratory tests are accepted.

The exam must have been performed 48 hours before boarding or at a shorter interval.

Tourists who have already received two doses of the vaccine, the last being more than 21 days before boarding, will be automatically released to enter Noronha.

According to the government, tests performed by immunochromatography, such as rapid tests and tests to search for antigens, will not be accepted.

Children from zero to 6 years old are exempt from submitting exams to Covid. Children from 7 to 11 years old should show a negative result on the test. This measure will be maintained in December, when the new protocol enters into force for adults.

As for adolescents aged 12 to 17 years, the rule also provides for the presentation of negative tests for the coronavirus for those who have not yet been vaccinated. The rule will apply in December, even with new rules for adults.
