Urgent treatment before the Single Member Court of First Instance of Athens Minister of Education and Religions Niki Kerameos against Hellenic Teachers’ Federation (IOC) and the Federation of Secondary Education Officers (OLME), asking to be recognized as illegal and abusive the declared strike – abstention from the diagnostic examinations for the students of the 6th Grade of the primary schools and the students of the 3rd Grade of the gymnasiums in matters of wider / general knowledge of the cognitive subjects of the Modern Greek Language and Mathematics – “Greek PISA” – scheduled to take place on Wednesday 18 May 2022, sampling approximately 6,000 students and 300 schools per class. The lawsuit will be heard tomorrow, Tuesday, due to the urgency.
The issue that arises concerns the application or not of a Law passed by the Greek Parliament (art. 104, L 4823/2021), which The trade union leaders arbitrarily try to abolish in practice, constantly denying any attempt to improve the quality of education.
With these examinations, for the first time in our educational system, an established framework is established that will collect systematically, by sampling, at national level and on an anonymous basis, measurable data on the quality of education, through a valid and reliable diagnosis of students’ knowledge, abilities and skills in Language – Text Comprehension and Mathematics. But also the first time that the Ministry of Education and Science asks for the opinion of teachers in order to use the results of these procedures for the better formulation of educational policy based on measurable data.
THE The backward attitude of the trade union leaders makes an alginate impression, as the trade union leaders themselves, who had to take the lead in constantly claiming the improvement of education in the country, are constantly obstructing the internationally accepted methods of upgrading the educational work. They systematically defy that:
– there can be no improvement without prior recording of the current situation with specific, representative, measurable data,
– Greece is one of the last developed countries that does not have such an institution to date (indicatively, similar institutions already operate in Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Hungary, Finland, Sweden, Croatia, Czech Republic),
– the actions of the trade union leaderships are directed directly against the students and the education system as a whole, hindering its improvement,
– the implementation of passed laws in the favored countries is not left to the trade union leaderships,
– their didactic role and the consequent responsibility towards their students does not stop in the classroom, but continues with their example and wider attitude.
