The 64-year-old was admitted to the University Hospital initially with a serious heart problem and his hospitalization in an Intensive Care Unit was deemed necessary by the treating doctors.
In PAGNI, however, there was no empty bed and so the doctors, in consultation with the Rethymnon hospital, decided to transfer him there.

The patient was hospitalized in the ICU of Rethymno hospital and as soon as his health condition stabilized he was taken back to PAGNI.

The 64-year-old from Heraklion developed a fever and during the laboratory examination the doctors discovered the fungus. The patient had no symptoms due to his Candida auris infection.
