EODY: These are the symptoms of monkey pox- Mild illness

by

In our country, no suspicious case has been recorded so far smallpox of monkeys, as stated in a statement by the National Agency for Public Health (ΕΟΔΥ), which is on alert and closely monitors the development of cases in collaboration with European public health bodies, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

EODY emphasizes that based on the epidemiological data so far the risk to the general population is lowwhile the disease is usually mild and self-limiting, with relatively low transmissibility. However, citizens are advised to follow the instructions of their doctors in case of a rash or unusual skin damage.

The agency notes that in early May, a case of smallpox was detected in the United Kingdom in a traveler returning from Nigeria. Since then, further sporadic cases have been reported in the United Kingdom, as well as in other European countries (Portugal, Spain, Italy).

The monkey pox is rare viral infection, which is transmitted mainly by wild animals found in areas of West and Central Africa. THE transmission from person to person is done through contact with skin lesions-body fluids of the patient or contaminated objects, as well as through respiratory droplets after prolonged close contact at a short distance.

The symptoms include fever, headache, myalgias, back pain, lymphadenopathy, chills and exhaustionwhile it usually appears characteristic rash one to five days after the onset of symptoms.

Although there is no specific treatmentmost patients fully recover in a few weeks.

Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated in the United Kingdom with no history of travel, and sporadic outbreaks in other European countries indicate that the disease may be transmitted to the community.
