Mr. Theodorikakos promised that in order to have a stronger police presence in the center of Athena, no police officer will leave the police stations of the Municipality of Athens for tourist destinations.
“Our common goal is the safety of citizens,” Civil Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos told SKAI, referring to a working meeting held yesterday with the participation of the ministry leadership and the Greek Police with the Mayor of Athens, Costas Bakogiannis.
“Our action all this time is an action of daily cooperation because the problems are important and we must deal with them together,” said Mr. Theodorikakos.
He announced that from March 15 until yesterday Greek Police have arrested 1,000 illegal immigrants and has taken them to detention centers. As Mr. Theodorikakos stressed, it has been proven that there is a very serious issue of crime and delinquency associated with foreign immigrants, who are illegal.
He also said that for this purpose, the presence of the police forces in the center of Athena and in the neighborhoods is strengthened, while the special operations for the suppression of illegal immigration and the drug trade will continue, which are an absolute priority.
He added that the problem with drug users is intractablevery difficult and needs the assistance of other services.
Mr. Theodorikakos promised that in order to have a stronger police presence in the center of Athena, no police officer is going to leave the police departments of the Municipality of Athens for tourist destinations, in the Autumn the 700 new police officers will be all distributed within the Attica Police Department, while on July 1 the 185 special guards who enter the Universities, are available at the police department of the Municipality of Athens for the difficult period July-August.
Also, the police forces that are released from the transfer of the files are also dedicated to the security issues of the Municipality of Athens.
