THE Evangelos Venizelos was appointed a member a high level seven-member team which will be suggested on the role to be played by Council of Europe in the new landscape taking shape in Europe after the war in Ukraine and the exclusion of Russia from the Council.
The proposal was made by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who asked Mr. Venizelos to accept it.
In addition to Mr Venizelos, the commission includes former prime ministers of France and Slovakia and former EU High Representative Federica Mogherini.

Evangelos Venizelos has been appointed a member of the seven-member High Council of Europe (High Council of Reflection Group) which will propose the role that the Council of Europe is called to play, promoting its statutory goals and European values, in the new landscape formed by the Russian invasion and the war in Ukraine and after the exclusion of Russia from the Organization, but also its denunciation of the European Convention on Human Rights.
The High Level Group was set up by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, in implementation of a decision by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
The high-level group includes, in addition to Mr Venizelos, former Prime Ministers of France Bernard Cazeneuve and Slovakia Iveta Radičová, former High Representative of the EU Federica Mogherini, former Norwegian Foreign Minister Inne Eride and former Prime Minister Sene Erie of Andorra Josep Dallerès Codina.
The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had asked Mr. Venizelos to accept the relevant proposal of the Greek Government, the Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Barvitsiotis participates in the Committee of Ministers and is responsible for the affairs of the Council of Europe and the Ambassador of Greece presented the Greek proposal to the Secretary General.
