Hungary: Gas supply plan from Greece via Bulgaria and Romania

Meeting of the Minister of Environment and Energy Nikos Skrekas with his Hungarian counterpart

The possibility of forwarding quantities of natural gas to Hungary, via Bulgaria and Romania, in the event of supply problems from Russia was discussed at today’s meeting. the Minister of Environment and Energy, Costas Skrekas, and the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó.

The meeting also considered Hungary’s participation in the East Mediterranean Gas Forum, which is a key pillar of regional security and development. The two ministers also mentioned the importance of the Eastern Mediterranean gas fields for the diversification of energy sources and routes and the independence of Europe from the import of Russian fossil fuels.

End, Mr. Skrekas presented the complete plan of the government for the adequacy of the country’s supply and measures for the uninterrupted supply of the country with natural gas.

The Minister of Environment and Energy, Costas Skrekas, stated: “In my meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, we discussed the need for the two countries to become independent from Russian fossil fuels and the measures we have taken in this direction. At a critical juncture, we are strengthening bilateral cooperation in order to increase our energy competitiveness and security. “Closer co-operation between European countries to accelerate the green transition is the only solution to shield our continent and protect consumers by ensuring affordable energy prices.”
