The Minister stressed the importance of the investment, in general, for our country, stating that it is proceeding normally and when completed will be a pole of attraction, even for those who fought it and were opposed to it.

He gave, as a typical example, Costa Navarino investment in Kalamata which when it was announced received reactions, resulting in years of delays, but when it was completed and its decisive positive effect became apparent, throughout the Peloponnese it is now supported by the whole of society.

For NSRF the minister noted: “Greece is the first country in the EU to receive approval for the new NSRF, and the next country is six months behind us.”

He also reiterated that Greece will be the first country to disburse money in 2022 and that in this way there will be no funding gap. Thus the country will have three Community sources of funding, the current NSRF, the new NSRF where the first programs are expected to be approved in September and the first disbursements and the Recovery Fund to be made in November.

According to Mr. Georgiadis, about a third of his funds new NSRF will be channeled into digital transformation and the second largest program is the “smart cities” that will turn the cities we live in into IoT spaces, that is, the internet of things, where everything will be interconnected.

As an example, he mentioned the bins, where through ΙοΤ municipalities will be able to do better planning in waste collection and the routes of garbage trucks, saving fuel, reducing by up to 50% the environmental burden, but also the suffering of the inhabitants of the cities. A total of 7-8 billion euros will be allocated for the digital transformation of the country, within a depth of 6 + 3 years, which are respectively the years of duration and extension of the program.
