Shock for the F-35
Intense concerns prevail in Ankara after Greece’s moves to acquire 20 + 20 F-35s from the US, as reflected in the Turkish press.
Today’s newspapers, as broadcast by Manolis Kostidisreport that Greece is trying to change the balance with the acquisition of the French Rafale and American F-35.
Military analyst Mete Yarar said the key factor that could change the balance between Greece and Turkey is aviation, which is the only sector in which Turkey has no production.
“They are trying to change the balance from there. With Rafale fighters with European long-range Metero and Scalp missiles. We are talking about air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons systems and now they are doing it with the purchase of F-35s! “
Indicatively, the front page of Hurriyet states: “Greek letter to the USA about the F-35. They will buy 20 + 20 F-35 “.
A Haber reports: “Movement from Greece for the F-35. “Greece is trying to block Turkey for the F-16s, but it has started the actions for the purchase of 40 F-35s”.
And SOZCU: “Greece sent a letter to the US about the F-35”.
Biden to Erdogan: I want calm waters in the Aegean
The Turkish press also makes extensive reference to Erdogan’s meeting with the American president, during which, as reported, Joe Biden asked the Turkish president for calm waters in the Aegean and stability in Syria.
For his part, Erdogan called for their purchase and modernization F-16 and received a reply from the American president that he would work on the issue, but reminded him that the issue is going through the US Congress.
According to Manolis Kostidis, Turkish sources reported last night that Joe Biden replied that as soon as he lands in Washington he will work on the issue of F-16s and will try to pass through Congress.
The Turkish press also points out that Erdogan did not make any reference to Greek-Turkish.
