The rapid spread of the “O-micron” mutation in many countries of the world, has signaled an alarm to the Government and the Health Authorities, who remain fully prepared for the possibility of new interventions to further “shield” the country, if necessary.
The government continues to set global or local lockdown scenarios out of planning, while at this stage it says no to new measures, seeing the implementation of existing restrictions focusing on the unvaccinated to bear fruit, leading to a clear and rapid increase in vaccinations.
“The pandemic is a dynamic phenomenon and we are taking the necessary measures, examining the epidemiological, economic and social data. The mix of measures is not static. There is a strategic plan behind the individual arrangements. “The lockdown is not in the grid of our planning and will not exist”, says the government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou.
Apart from the lockdown, however, no one can rule out with certainty other interventions in view of Christmas and depending on the evolution of the Omicron mutation.
“We have taken all the necessary measures in a precautionary and natural way and we are monitoring what is happening exactly because, as the experts said, it is still not clear what is happening with this mutation,” the Deputy Minister of Digital Government, George Georgantas, told SKAI.
In the arsenal of the government’s reserve Plan B, which can be activated if necessary, the following are examined:
-Increasing the rapid tests to 3 from 2 per week for the attendance of the unvaccinated at work or the requirement to be daily instead of 48 hours
-The use of a mask outdoors everywhere regardless of overcrowding
-and in case of emergency as a last resort the exclusion of the unvaccinated from the outdoor dining and entertainment areas even with a negative rapid test.
However, the opposition is sharply critical, calling for further strengthening of the NSS.
“I can not understand how a government can continue to say that the support we have made to the public health system is sufficient, at a time when there are our fellow citizens who are intubated outside the ICU or die outside the ICU,” said SYRIZA MP Efi Ahtsioglou.
The government continues to raise the issue of universal or local lockdown scenarios, while at this stage it says no to new measures, seeing the implementation of existing restrictions focusing on the vaccinated to bear fruit, leading to a clear and rapid increase in vaccinations.
The government, however, assures that despite the intense pressure on the National Health System, it is not collapsing and will continue to strengthen.
