Kalafatis: 40 million euros from the Recovery Fund for Thessaloniki-Kalamaria

What the Deputy Minister of Interior (Macedonia – Thrace) Mr. Kalafati said about the acceptance of project proposals in the Municipalities of Thessaloniki and Kalamaria and their financing from the Recovery Fund

Our priority is the everyday life of citizens. For this reason, we pay particular attention to small-scale projects that improve the living conditions of the residents of urban centers. Such as the projects amounting to 29.6 million euros approved for the Municipality of Thessaloniki and 9 million euros for the Municipality of Kalamaria. These are projects of particular importance, financed by the Recovery Fund through the Ministry of Environment and Energy, which are part of the ‘Strategic Urban Interventions aimed at improving public space’ program. We make the best use of the financial tools at our disposal. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and everyone in the government stand by the Local Government and support the efforts for modern, greener, more citizen-friendly cities“, emphasized the Deputy Minister of the Interior, responsible for Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, on the occasion of the acceptance of project proposals – interventions in the urban environment, of the Municipalities of Thessaloniki and Kalamaria.

Especially for the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Ministry of Environment and Energy accepted the proposal with a proposed funding amount of 29,679,967.00 euros, for the regeneration of streets in the center of Thessaloniki, the selection of which has resulted from participatory planning by the municipal units, including emblematic streets of the city (e.g. Egnatia). It is accompanied by the installation of “smart” systems and the undergrounding of waste bins. With its completion, the everyday life of citizens will improve, not only at the municipal level but also at a wider geographical level.

More specifically, it includes the following sub-projects:

1. Reconstruction construction works

2. Innovation solutions for urban revitalization interventions aimed at the economic reconstruction of local commercial streets in all municipal communities of the Municipality of Thessaloniki

3. Undergrounding of bins

4. Expenses of Public Benefit Organizations networks

5. Archeology Expenses

6. Costs of maturation of project studies.

For the Municipality of Kalamaria, a proposal was accepted with a proposed funding amount of €9,000,000.00. Includes:

1. Renovations of green routes in the Municipality of Kalamaria

2. Innovation solutions for highlighting the green routes of the Municipality of Kalamaria

3. Connection to DEDDIE network

4. Connection to EYATH-YDREFSI network

5. Archeology expenses

6. Costs of principal designer

7. Costs of maturing studies of the sub-project “Creation of six green areas in the Municipality of Kalamaria”.

The purpose is the bioclimatic upgrade and the upgrade of the public space. It includes the rehabilitation of 21 streets/street sections and equipping them with “smart systems” as well as connection to Networks of Public Benefit Organizations.
