Vernadakis: I apologize for the unacceptable comment – The political criticism remains

by

“My comment about Ms. Kerameos’ anti-educational extremism was clearly wrong,” said Christofos Bernardakis

SYRIZA MP Christofos Bernardakis apologized to the Minister of Education for the unacceptable video, in which he compared Niki Kerameos with Roula Pispirigou.

In his statement, Mr. Vernadakis states: “My comment about the anti-educational rant of Ms. Kerameos was clearly misplaced. For this reason and in recognition of it, I have withdrawn it since last night. I apologize to Ms. Kerameos for the unacceptable comment, but my political criticism of the disgrace she brought to the parliament for a vote remains intact.”

The said videowhich was downloaded from the former minister’s account on Tik Tok, caused an uproar on social media, while also causing the angry reactions of both Mrs. Kerameos herself and New Democracy.

The Minister of Education accused Mr. Bernardakis of attempted character assassination and misogyny and called on Alexis Tsipras in a post on Twitter to take a stand against the comments of the SYRIZA MP.

“Mr. Christoforos Bernardakis exceeded every limit. Ugliness, toxic polarization and division, attempted character assassination, misogyny… What position will Mr. Alexis Tsipras take?” writes Ms. Kerameos.

For its part, New Democracy issued a statement, in which it stated that Mr. Bernardakis surpassed even the most extreme trolls of SYRIZA.

In its statement, ND states: “The SYRIZA MP, Mr. Bernardakis, surpassed even the most extreme SYRIZA trolls in toxicity. In a video posted on social media, he describes the Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, as the “Pispirigou of education”.

Apparently he thinks that by likening the minister to a litigant, he can gain a few minutes of opposition publicity. All he does is prove that the vulgarity emitted by him and his party has no end! We demand that Mr. Tsipras condemn the vile attack of his close associate on the Minister of Education. If he doesn’t do it, it will be as if he is co-signing it.”

In the video, Mr. Bernardakis wondered if Ms. Kerameos is the… Pispirigou of education and noted that the Minister of Education:

“1) It deprived 50,000 young men and women of entering the Universities.

2) He recognized equal professional rights in all kinds of private colleges with Universities and Polytechnics.

3) Raised tuition fees for all graduate programs.

4) It turned vocational training into unskilled cheap labor and children’s wages into pocket money.

5) He hired police officers in Universities, instead of research teachers and university professors.

6) Replace degrees with certificates of low value.’
