“It won’t be easy. Prices won’t come down anytime soon, instead this problem will be there for a long time,” Mr. Soltz told about 150 people.
In difficult times we must stay united, Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed, ruling out the possibility of Germany’s independent course from its partners in the Ukraine war.
He also warned of maintaining high energy prices “for a long time”.
“It won’t be easy. “Prices will not fall soon, on the contrary this problem will exist for a long time,” Mr. Solz told about 150 people in Lübeck as part of the “Dialogue with Citizens” and assured that income support measures would continue.
“No one will be left helpless,” emphasized the chancellor.
As for the federal government’s stance on the Ukraine war, Mr. Soltz said he was committed to engaging with partners and allies.
“These are very serious times and a situation where we are not allowed to make a mistake. A mistake in these conditions would be terrifying. There is no lonely road for us,” he noted.
Asked about criticism of the issue, the chancellor said he always wanted to “keep his feet on the ground” and that he was not guided by newspaper headlines or opinion polls. “The issue is what we are doing for peace and security in Europe,” he said.
But Mr. Soltz also answered questions about love, on the occasion of the recent wedding of Finance Minister Christian Lindner. “Love is the most beautiful thing in life, and when two people find each other, it doesn’t take much talking,” the chancellor said.
