The Minister of Citizen Protection appealed to young people to be careful when driving. “It’s magic to live and not to lose your life because you drank more than you should,” he emphasized.

To increase by 50% traffic officials controls on the island, to deal with violations of the Road Traffic Code, asked the General Regional Director of Crete Giorgos Lybinakis, the Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakoswho visits her Crete and participated in a meeting with the directors of the Police Departments of Crete at the Heraklion police station. Mr. Theodorikakos stated that during the meeting they addressed the issue of traffic accidents, explaining that what is a priority is “to reduce the blood tax on the asphalt in Crete”.

As the Minister of Citizen Protection pointed out, “it is tragic to lose children, young people, but also people of any age, whether they are locals or visitors to the island, due to carelessness or problems that people can deal with”.

“I want to appeal mainly to the young children, our children. We want them to have fun, we want them to have a good time. It’s magic to live and not to lose your life because you drank more than you should” added the Minister of Citizen Protection who explained that in this direction there will be cooperation with self-government, social agencies, teachers and the Church.

Mr. Theodorikakos, referring to Crete, said that the island is a “protagonist in the country’s tourism recovery and its overall economic recovery and development”, pointing out that a condition for tourism development to be successful, to have stability and perspective “is that there is security on the island , security for which the Greek Police work systematically and successfully”. He also mentioned that this summer there has been reinforcement with more than 150 policemen, while the image that exists both from the airports and the ports in Crete, shows that they are operating normally “and our policemen really guarantee the safety of the citizens, both the residents as well as the millions of visitors”.

The Minister of Citizen Protection expressed his satisfaction with the level of dealing with the issues of violence and crime on the island, despite the increase, as he said, of aggressive behavior after the quarantine period. “Because of the work being done, crime and delinquency related to the average Cretan household, i.e. thefts, robberies, burglaries, is reduced by about 20%,” he noted.

In addition, the Minister of Citizen Protection referred to what has happened in recent years, noting that “the years that Kyriakos Mitsotakis has ruled the country, a Cretan who worthily leads the country…. the police here in Crete have been strengthened with very important infrastructures”. “There are more than 200 vehicles that have arrived on the island and about 1,000 bulletproof vests, which are critical for the safety of the police officers,” said Takis Theodorikakos, concluding by stating that through the visit to Crete with the head of the Greek Police, Konstantinos Skuma also wants to highlight the decisive support for logistical infrastructure of ELAS on the island, such as the auction of the new Police Headquarters in Rethymno, financed by the Ministry of Infrastructure with 8.5 million euros. As Mr. Theodorikakos pointed out, the relevant technical study has been approved, while the upgrading of the Chania Police Department, the Heraklion Police Department, which is expanding with the policemen’s club, is also progressing, while he added that similar moves will be made for the Lassithi Police Department as well , the next period.

The Minister of Citizen Protection began his visit to Crete with a meeting he had with the Archbishop of Crete, Evgenios, who, as he pointed out, have known each other since the past and anyway before he was elevated to the highest office of the Church of Crete, with whom they discussed a number of issues of concern society.
