by

“The discussion is taking place in a climate of toxicity, ideology and client priorities”, while “the necessary dialogue was not preceded”, said the president of PASOK

With severe criticism of the government and caustic about the general climate in which the debate is held bill of the Ministry of Education for Universitiesthe president of PASOK appeared in his comment Nikos Androulakis.

More specifically he stated:

“The government’s bill on HEIs is being debated in Parliament in an atmosphere of toxicity, bigotry and client priorities. In matters where mutually acceptable solutions could be found, they do not intend to show consensus and synthesis of opinions.

After a decade of consecutive crises the issues Education instead of being a common concern of all political forces, they are exploited by ND and SYRIZA to artificially increase the polarization between them, with the only losers being students and education as a whole.

Without having preceded the necessary dialogue with the entire academic community, when the consultation on the corresponding PASOK law in 2011 had lasted 14 months, the government is promoting with its plan a centralized model of university administration that reinforces opacity, bureaucracy lack of accountability and nepotism.

On the other hand, Mr SYRIZA has become her biggest sponsor governmentsince the atrocities of Bernardakis they helped to divert the debate from the important problems of the bill.

PASOK-Movement for Change tabled as a force for progress and responsibility an amendment with a set of specific proposals, with the main axis being social accountability and the decentralization of the operation of HEIs. For this reason, we propose, among other things, the restoration of the democratic election of the Rector, as well as the institutionalization of Foundation Councils and not Management with a mainly supervisory role regarding the implementation of the strategic planning of the Foundations.

There is no model of a modern university, which allows an uncontrollable Rector of questionable legitimacy and a Board of Management subordinate to him.

With our specific positions and proposals, we prove in practice that our only concern is the future of the new generation and the resources that the Public University must provide to them through its essential upgrade”.
