Thessaloniki: 4 months in prison to a 60-year-old for stealing bagels from a supermarket

The incident was reported last Friday in a supermarket in Lagadas, Thessaloniki.

Imprisonment four months and ten days, with a three-year suspension, imposed by the Three-member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki to 60 years oldbecause he stole frozen food bugs from a supermarket and resisted the police when they were called to check him. The Court ruled against him guilty of theft and violence against employees, admitting that he did the acts with reduced accrual.

The incident was reported last Friday in a supermarket in Lagadas, Thessaloniki. According to the case file, it was seven packages of clothes, with a total value of 15.26 euros, of which one was found under his clothes and the rest in a bag.

An employee of the business had notified the Immediate Action and two police officers arrived at the scene (inside the business). As the 60-year-old, originally from Albania, “was pushing and did not accept to be controlled […] saying unintelligible things,” as he testified witness – police officertwo other police officers were called for assistance and his arrest followed.

THE defense of the 60-year-old claimed that the acts were carried out with reduced imputation and he cited a problem he had in recent years in his head, because of which he has impaired perception. This claim was confirmed by his relative and his employer who were examined as witnesses. They stated that the accused has been working for more than 25 years in a cheese factory, has never engaged the authorities and is paid satisfactorily.

The same in apology he told him he would pay, while talking about the “war in Europe…”, conveying to the judges that “Greek feta is the best”.

By the majority, he was found guilty with a reduced charge, without recognition of mitigating circumstances, while the defense’s request for attempted theft of items of small value was rejected. The 60-year-old appealed and was released.
