“Changes in education are not nuanced. Greece must become an educational center of knowledge throughout Europe,” said the Minister of Education from the floor of the Parliament
For 10 truths of the bill, she spoke Minister of EducationNiki Kerameos, closing the two-day debate in the plenary session of the Parliament, of the bill for the new management model of HEIs.
As he said, “a rich parliamentary process took place with the speeches of 110 MPs and the positions of 20 competent bodies”.
At the same time, commenting on SYRIZA’s abstention from the vote, Mrs. Kerameos accused him of choosing to escape to avoid having to vote on 9 out of 10 articles of the bill.
“The withdrawal of SYRIZA is the overwhelming proof that there is in the provisions the common sense that society requires. Because changes in education are not nuanced. Why should Greece become an educational center of knowledge throughout Europe”, underlined Mrs. Kerameos.
According to the Minister of Education, the 10 truths of the bill are:
1: Academic potential for students
2: Improving students’ everyday life
3: Incentives for innovations and research projects in students and academics
4: Many benefits to society with modern framework
5: Decentralization of the system by transferring responsibilities to the universities
6: Better connection of universities with the labor market
7: New management model of HEIs by abolishing the omnipotence of the rector and creating an 11-member structure
8: New, more transparent and meritocratic framework for the election and evaluation of academics
9: An end to the suffering of society, with rapid procedures for the recognition of degrees from abroad and
10: emblematic reforms demanded by society.
